NAS noob question now.
how do you transfer files between folders and drives etc?
i think thats whats putting me off is ease of file management
Ooh thats an interesting question, that you would think simple to answer. NOT!
So lets say you have the NAS with 4 internal drives and say an external off usb.
The 4 drives will typically be in an array, so one protected filesystem. Off this you can have one or more network shares using this one filesystem, each can be restricted user/pc access and can have a usage limit set.
External drives are seperate filesystems so a network share would normally need to be set up to show the contents of the external on the network.
So we end up with something like:
Internal 4 drives = Filesystem 1 = Network share 1
External 1 drive = Filesystem 2 = Network share 2
So say you had a file on the external and you needed it on Filesystem 1?
Option1: mount both network shares from your PC and copy from 2 to 1. SlOW
Option2: SSH onto the NAS (It's just a linux server) and type cp /filesystem2/filename /filesystem1 (Eveything is copied locally on the NAS, you're well l33t now)
Option3: SSH onto the NAS and create a softlink connecting the external drive as a folder under Filesystem1. ie. ln -s /filesystem2 /filesystem1/External (External drive will appear as a folder under the Network share 1 , now you are super l33t, proceed to IT godlyness)
Option4: Setup RTRR (real time rsync replication) the qnap NAS' can have jobs set up to replicate between filesystems. (Not as l33t, but everything is duplicated nicely)
3 Means that everything will appear under 1 big filesystem. 4 means you do it once and then never repeat it. Moving files under 1 or 3 from a pc will result in a lot of network traffic. :cool:

WOW! that is a hell of a price. I thought �700 for mine with an upgrade was tasty!

That screenie looks the same as my 11" Air with W7 Ultimate SP1, and audio is working fine on here.
Can you go into the Start menu, right click Computer, click Manage, then click Device Manager on the left hand bar. Check whether or not if there's any errors under the Sound menu.
I'll see if I can dig up the driver set I have and upload it somewhere. (assuming the 11" model uses the same audio chip as the 13"...?)
I had a display error on my previous installation (res would not go over 800x600 even after installing the Boot Camp drivers) and removing/reinstalling the drivers did nothing to solve the issue. I had to reinstall Windows- I would suggest not installing anything just yet because you might have to go through the pains of reinstalling ;)

Aye, it seems a shame to force iOS developers to update their machines (admittedly old machines, but still) to coincide with a new desktop iOS - but I guess that's the case with such a closed development environment.
It'll be a Mac Mini for me I imagine :) Still I also suspect I could run Xcode 4.0.x on a Snow Leopard machine for some time before it became a real issue...Hmmm...just timelining lol

Come on algoriddim, bring on the sale for the iPad version and I'll be happy :) 20 dollars is too much for me, I just won't use it enough to warrant that price. If it was 7,99 I would have bought it already.
Pretty much that. Maybe for professionals its worth that price, but for a regular joe just wanting to mess around your not going to be getting much love at a $20 price point in the app store. I've tried this app at a friends house (how I found out about it) and TBH I wouldn't pay more then $3. He's a DJ though and says he didn't think twice about it. So depends on how well it's selling.

It takes 578mhz to do one w/u a day. Therefore that would mean an 867mhz would do 1.5 a day (accurate, thats what my PB does) and a 266mhz would do one every 2.1 days, also accurate. Someone compare my equation to their computer. All you do is take your CPU speed and divide it by 578. It *should* give you roughly the w/u you complete in one day.
First off, every work unit is different. Second did you take into account that if SETI runs in Blank screen mode it runs WUs faster? Of course not. I run a B/W G3/300 in blank screen mode and can complete a WU in 20-22 hrs. I have stated before that in Blank screen mode WUs can be crunched much faster than screensaver mode. I figure my WU times by looking at the percentage of WU completion per hour. 300MHz = roughly 5% per hour. 450/466 MHz = roughly 7.5% per hour. 1.25GHz = 16% per hour. Take your 100 and divide by the average completion per hour---100/7.5=13.33hrs.

Considering all the times i've almost been mugged, and that one freaking time my ipod touch was taken in a matter of seconds.. i wouldn't mind getting one of these. =P

There are usually pretty descent deals on the refurb store and usually not just one, so I am sure if you wait a while longer you will still be able to get a good deal, if not there are always other online stores such as eBay. BTW how much were you looking on spending?
