When Airport Extreme came out, I remember reading that it wasn't possible for Apple to release an AE card that would fit in the older Airport slots because the bus speed of the Airport slot was insufficient to support AE speeds. That makes very little sense to me, however, since the Airport slot looks and acts pretty much like an ordinary PCMCIA slot, and if 3rd-party vendors can make an 802.11g card for the PCMCIA slot, then why not for the Airport Slot? Oh well.
I would love an 802.11g card for my Pismo, but I just can't stand the thought of having something sticking out the side :P

My wife and I are going to San Francisco in November. I thinking about taking the BART from SFO to downtown. Mainly I would avoid the hassle of driving downtown plus I would save on rental car costs and parking costs. Once we get downtown we won't really need a car.

9. What does the settlement provide?
NVIDIA has agreed to provide a replacement of the NVIDIA GPU or MCP to Class Members who purchased certain versions of some Dell, Inc. or Apple Inc. notebook computers that contain an NVIDIA chip and who send in a valid Claim Form and appropriate supporting documentation.
NVIDIA has also agreed to provide a fund in the amount of $2,000,000 to provide reimbursements if you purchased a version of one of the notebook computer models identified in the Full Notice that contains an NVIDIA GPU or MCP during the dates listed in the Full Notice experienced certain identified symptoms, and have appropriate documentation proving that you paid to have the notebook computer repaired. The amount of reimbursement may depend on the number of reimbursement claims received.

I wanted to use a character of some sort and Newton seemed a good choice because of the obvious connection with the apple; this also has some personal relevance because I have a degree in Physics!
I've got a PowerBook myself, but the reason why I chose to drop an iBook on Newton's head is because the white shows up better (since I gave him grey hair)... also when I first signed up to MR I was interested in buying an iBook and my very first post was in the "New iBooks Next Tuesday?" thread. I had to change the text to Wednesday what with the recent releases, but I thought that including this all-too familiar thread topic kinda captured the boards :p
I've got some ideas for other avatars too, but not sure if I'll have time to execute them...

Anyword on the "rumored" marble interface that was reported awhile back?
Seconded. I currently do all my development in VS 2008 then port to XCode and Linux at compilation time. I'd like to switch to XCode for development, but I just prefer VS2008. I'm eager to see if XCode 4 will suit my needs better than where the Express version at least has been irritating me already. I prefer all in one displays for IDEs, and XCode 3's interpretation of AIO is a mess IMHO.

To be honest, I'd probably get more excited over any optics that Nokia will bring to WP7.

NetNewsWire is one of the apps I use most on my Mac. They do have an web app designed for the iPhone at m.newsgator.com which wonderfully keeps all my subscriptions in sync between their full web interface (which I use at work), NetNewsWire (on my Mac at home) and my iPhone. I can't imagine a better setup and now that NewNewsWire is free, I am a happy camper.

I had the 400 iMac DV SE, and I just put in a 500MHz w/ a better grphx card (was on the 500mhz mobo) and it runs like a charm. Just get the mobo off eBay and there ya go! ;)

TRIM enabler is a hack, and some people have reported that their read/write speeds have dropped significantly after installing it on their macs. I'm worried that it even does the job, but I am guessing it just changes the kernel so that instead of saying 'No' it says 'Yes' under TRIM support in SERIAL-ATA.
It's not just changing the No to a Yes. You can confirm TRIM is working by using hfsdebug and dd, with and without the patch. The beachballs people get could be due to an over aggressive use of TRIM by the current kext's, guess we'll find out sooner or later.

It could mean that, or it could mean they just haven't updated the graphite versions of the buttons/loading bars/etc yet. I would love to see them offer more color options, but I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up being just blue and graphite again. :o

Doors opened promptly at 5:00, and the first batch of customers were welcomed in to the store to thunderous applause (I've seen this on videos, but I thought it was just a Cupertino or NY flagship store thing). I was about four people behind the first batch in, so I ended up getting in and out in 15 minutes.
When I left, the line stretched all the way back to the ice skating pavilion and around the corner to Panera. If I had to guess, easily north of 250 people.
Here's an interesting tidbit: just before the doors opened, one member of the security team started barking at people to put their cameras and cellphones away. He was even chasing down pedestrians on the other side of the street. Not sure what that B.S. was about, but as a photographer, I take exception to that sort of overreach. It's a public street, and last time I checked, the Apple store is not a post office, military base, or other government facility.
