I'm from the UK, where capital punishement was abolished in 1969.
I'm not trying to be picky, but I thought you might be interested to know that the death penalty was suspended in 1965, abolished for murder in 1969 and abolished totally in 1998. However, the last execution was in 1964.
Here in the UK we would love capital punishement to be reintroduced, a life for a life as they say.
Not sure where you got that from, I think you may be projecting? Did you know every Parliament from 1965 to 1997 had a free vote on capital punishment and always voted against it? If there was a public referendum I think it would be pretty close. However, the UK can't reintroduce the death penalty without withdrawing from the EU and the Human Rights Convention, so no Government would risk a vote on something that isn't a massive public issue.
Most murders are in defence or panic, also a lot of pre-planned.
This is where the public perception is quite wrong. In the UK you must cause the death of another, which is obvious. However, your state of mind is what people do not understand. In the UK you do not have to intend to kill someone to be convicted of murder, you can intend to cause GBH and be convicted. The majority of murders are convicted on the basis of intent to cause GBH. The offender never intended to kill someone, they only intended to cause serious harm. Although people convicted of murder are not usually nice people, they are not usually the monsters people imagine (family member works for Probation Service).
Real case- man stabs women in non-vital area. Women would almost certainly have survived, but she was a Jehovah's Witness and refused a blood transfusion. The man was found guilty or murder- he caused the death and intended to cause serious harm.
Real case- man chases wife out of house intending to harm her. Wife has heart condition that was undiagnosed and had a heart attack in the road outside the house. Husband guilty of murder.
Taking the above examples, clearly these two were unpleasant people to say the least, but do they deserve the death penalty?
Here in the UK the law is fail, 2 years for killing someone. No common sense here in the UK.
Murder comes with a mandatory life sentence in the UK. The judge sets the minimum term before parol can be considered. The average lifer spends about 16 years in prison- bear in mind most lifers never intended to kill anyone. But remember- life does mean life despite what the tabloids say. The Probation Service meets with the offender for the rest of their life and assesses their risk. They cannot go abroad of move house without permission. If they commit any crime they can be recalled to prison.
(Also why I don't believe in the "life should mean life" argument. The ability to monitor people for the rest of their lives once released is very beneficial.)

that it needs arguments about cost to abolish the death penalty is hardly a testament to the "values" or "morals" many politicians like to talk about

Me, my .mac account is up for renewal and this makes me glad to pay for another year. I like my .mac email address, I like the seamless synchronisation between my two macs and don't have a problem (yet) with the current size.
That said, I welcome any improvements to the service.

After fratting around trying to get the concept of a modular website finalised in my head, I seem to be in the domain now of php and mySQL/web driven database programming - the dogs nuts way to achieve my current plan for a bilingual site.
We have the corporate image, we will provide all the artistic stuff, we want a dare I say, code head with an appreciation for snappy and very clean websites.
As far as monies, we are not asking for a freebie, at all, I want this thing to rock, but I am not going to roll over to the corporate master programmers out there who spend more on coffeee accounts than most humans consume on running their cars.
We are coming up with creative ways to finance various aspects of our project, some involve work now pay later, others are for a slice of a project's ownership. In the case of this website construction, anyone out there who seriously knows what they are doing, is inbetween jobs, or is striking out on their own and wants to earn good but not greedy money on a very good project please ask and I will send you our apparently well conceived and "detailed at a high level" spec (I can say it is good and detailed because one of these big time outfits thought it would be a really fun and novel addition to their CV, but hand over exorbitant sums, perlease)
For the successful programmer we will ensure regular and meaningful payments till the bill is paid off in full.
The quote has to be real world, not full of little tricks to add to the bill for a slight change in spec or maintain some sort of limiting control prohibiting us from being able to update our site whenever we want. (I was in the estimating game so I can smell an "extras motivated wide boy" from a mile off) and you have to like being pummeled with creativity, because our designer guy is Picasso on the PC.
Interested parties please send me a PM. Our website is aimed at kids, so it is totally cool material.
Thanks

So Samsung believed Apple was violating it's patents all this time but decided to do nothing about it. Now that they have been pushed they decide to act. Sounds to me they are trying to find whatever they can to bite back at Apple.
IF companies sued others for perceived infringement of patents, we wouldn't have anything new to buy.
Sony never sued asus for making clone laptops that were direct copies of sony vaio.
Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8F190 Safari/6533.18.5)
Uh oh Samsung. Now you've done it.. By suing Apple in the US you've gone and released the Apple legal war machine. This surely will not turn out well for you.
check wiki.
samsung electronics (not the samsung group just electronics) is 2x or 3x times bigger in revenue than apple.
samsung is #2 patents holdings in USA. apple barely broke into top 50 recently.
$$ and patents holdings tell me it won't be so easy for apple.
NO. This is how it works in the world of corporate business.
Company A has a patent (or more) that Co. B wants. B uses A's patents without consent. A waits. A finds a patent B has that they want. A uses B's patents without consent. Then A sues B or vice-verse. The two co. get together and work out a licensing deal. Profit.
samsung does that already with sony and ibm. both are in top 10 in US patents holding. Apple? Barely broke into top 50 recently.
I bet samsung told apple (in private negotiations) to come back with more patents if they want cross-license deal with samsung. and apple prob got pissed for being put down like that...

The less a corporation knows about me the better.
And Apple having your address, phone number, e-mail address, creditcard is fine with you? And if yes, why is ok for Apple to have this information but not for the FT?

Just wondering, does anyone know how to get one of those giant iphone displays that the apple stores have/had?
Or for that matter a giant ipad, app, or whatever? Where do these go when the stores update their displays? It would be so cool to have one of these!

BR drives costs 1000$ (cheap ones) and disks no less than 40$. You can buy over 3 TB of reusable/reliable/much faster HD Storage in that amount. I think that should be more than enough for any backups.
Players are that much but burners are not and discs are about $20. Just read my post on page 2 with the link for a drive and media
I started that whole thread with the hopes that others had other links of good burners and media that would show how prices were not as high as some "Corporate" companies would have us believe (yeah that sounds odd).
Also the discs are either 1X or 2X to start but with every new day it could change as releases are on the rise.

Apple can string on the consumer market, holding back features which their competitors have had for years and take for granted, and when they finally add them, they're already out of date. Sprinkle on some 'magic' and consumers eat it up.
The Professional market use their tools to make money and drive their workflow. If a product/solution like FCS becomes uncompetitive, the customer will move on.
Apple probably know that they can't compete in this space, at least profitably. Both Shake and Xserve are gone. The Macpro on price/performance is really poor value. And whilst FCS is brilliant value, it never really leaps ahead in terms of added features or optimisation.
It's possible that Apple in 5 years time will be a purely consumer electronics company, with no 'computers' in the traditional sense in it's line up. If this bears out, Pro Applications and Hardware, don't really figure into that reality.

How'd you get round it?
btw, whats the verdict on ram coolers? yes/no
I borrowed a faster Mac, and used that to install to its HDD, I think it mayve had more RAM, then dumped the HD in my trusty eMac and let it boot. It wouldnt boot on 64MB though... I tried that xD

yes, it was not showing cache size, it shows none... my temps were to on the higher 30's on idle, but never cranked up as high as 58 like before I installed CHUD, that it maintains the temperature at 56 the lowest even on idle. Good luck with it and enjoy your PMG4 Dual MDD...
