I disagree. There are plenty of people working with PS using just a mouse, which isn't pressure sensitive. Remember in the keynote demo of Garage Band, it was mentioned that Apple accomplished touch-sensitivity when you play an instrument by utilizing the accelerometer. I assume it could be the same for an imaging program.

I use the mouse almost exclusively with my photoshop work and only use the pen when I need it. But this version of photoshop will be running on a tablet with a touch interface. The allure behind that is not using a mouse, but rather a stylus/pen/finger. And unless you can get the precision of a pressure sensitive device, then I don't think it would mature much further than a hobbyist's tool.

I'm not sure if the accelerometer method would work to get such precise results. At least it didn't seem so when I read about how they got it to work. Touch sensitivity for playing a musical instrument is a bit different than drawing/painting/etc. I could be wrong though.

Why announce the support of one standard now when there is another competing standard?
There's two camps (HD-DVD and BluRay) trying to rally support. This tends to make even small announcements into huge press events.

PayPal will give the guy his money back. No question about it, this is a scam. It's misleading and there is no contract between the buyer and seller as the buyer was unaware that it was a picture and not actually a phone.

so, the thing is, tomatocart has payment modules and i want to charge customers for the "pay on delivery" option, which is not supported, hence i have to edit the module itself.

    i quote from TomatoCart's guides:

The payment php files in the /includes/modules/payment/ are responsible for rendering payment information for customers and handling payment gateway notifications; the files in the /admin/includes/modules/payment/ contains the configuration options to configure the payment module. And each payment method also have a language resource XML file in the /includes/languages/LANGUAGE_CODE/ modules/payment/.

so i basically have to edit the first two files, the one in "admin" and the one in "includes", and then update the language files...

i'm uploading the three files in folders that denote their location in a zip file.

i've edited the "admin" cod (cash on delivery) file and added the following, basically taken from a shipping method, that includes cost details (i'm adding the file in the zip file):

    $osC_Database->simpleQuery("insert into " . TABLE_CONFIGURATION . " (configuration_title, configuration_key, configuration_value, configuration_description, configuration_group_id, sort_order, date_added) values ('Payment Cost', 'MODULE_PAYMENT_COD_COST', '3.50', 'The payment cost for all orders using this payment method.', '6', '0', now())");

I don't get why Americans like bigger cars. Maybe it's the old mantra of bigger is better?

Have you SEEN most Americans lately? It's not a matter of want, it's a matter of NEED. Gotta have room for those big bodies. :)

It's combination of factors people have listed. For the most part, we don't have to deal with the narrow streets that much of Europe and Asia have. Also, I think Americans drive more. Now that I think about it, I would like to see a comparison of average miles driven per year in the US vs. Europe. I wonder how many people in Europe, for example, drive 30+ miles one way to work every day. If you drive that much, you want something with more room and better ride. Also, as pointed out, if the next bigger model provides similar mileage and isn't much more expensive, why not get it?

The same is true with more powerful engine options in the same car. In the new Hyundai Sonata, for example, the turbocharged 4 produces 70+ more HP yet is only rated 1 MPG less. For that small a penalty, why not go for more power?

What's the model # on your machine?

When it goes black, is it fully black, or is it just dark as it would be if the brightness were turned all the way down?

I'm guessing this is an a1181, a1211, or a1150 model machine.

This is a sandbox with a bunch of kids screaming my dad is better than yours...

Coming here and crying that your device is better you just prove to be absolute idiots. And I'm not talking as from insulting point of view. I'm just stating the obvious which points to the fact that you were born without most braincells needed for basic functions such as common sense. I really want to see the look on your face the day you will realise that.

Yeah, I remember being so bummed out when our arcade swapped the sit-down Star Wars model for the smaller stand-up version. Boooo

Don't forget also Star Trek Strategic Ops:

Guy had the sit-down one local for $750 in perfect condition - wow, sold it in under 1/2 hour...

I always enjoy watching the keynotes; Steve is an engaging speaker, and did a great demo for the new iPhone. I was waffling between the 'good' and 'missing something' choice on the poll, since I really wanted to find out more about stuff I could actually buy (Airport Express, iWork, etc.), but they Keynote was good for what it concentrated on. Ultimately, it just needs to be an exercise in patience, as I have good feelings about what 2007 will ultimately bring. And since I'm locked in to another year of T-Mobile, I won't even start to consider an iPhone until 08 (although that won't stop me from going in to play with one sometime this summer! :D ).

I support PCs and servers in my job, along with Macs as we're a mixed shop.

I can say without a shadow of a doubt what you put down has little basis in reality. Yes, windows machines take longer to boot up, but not always because of the the antivirus software.

They take longer because IT (me and my co workers) we make sure that group policies are pushed out on every reboot, so the machines are fairly locked down. We also push out updates to software automatically and also yes do virus scans.

For IT to take macs serious, they will need to easily apply group policies to the computer remotely and automatically. Have applications available that allows them to update client applications.

The cost of such is generally to a degree that makes using macs not feasible.

btw, I get just as many calls regarding problems with macs as I do with PCs. In fact many enterprise applications have some major compatibility issues with Safari.

Total Cost of Ownership, up time, training support and efficiencies all point to using PCs over a Mac.

Just because apple fanboys say its cheaper in the long run means its true, quite the opposite. Asset depreciation of Macs is the same as PCs, so there's no financial incentive for a business to hold on to a mac longer then a PC, and actually its negative to hold on to an asset when its fully depreciated even if its still functional. This throws the idea that macs last longer out the door when dealing with business and depreciation

So why buy a computer that costs 2x more then another, has less ability to support/manage remotely. Has the same level of support required, i.e., support calls for users who need help, has some serious compatibility issues with some enterprise applications and also requires a fair amount of re-training for both the users and support staff.

The last paragraph is your opinion and experience. As for full depreciation; what are you talking about? I've yet to meet a CFO that cares about using a desktop system that's completely depreciated. In your scenario, it's off the books, so throw it out the window...? You're right, most PC's/Laptops are fully depreciated at the end of 3 years, so there is no advantage for Mac over a PC. That's where a lot businesses AND IT people miss the boat. That's why there's more and more push to Cloud [Private as it relates to this] for applications allowing staff to use what they want. Having a narrow minded approach like this in business will cripple it. The true cost of savings is not having to push out applications, or install applications on 100's of systems. It's publishing the apps to be used on anything; PC, Laptop, Mac, Linux, Tablets, Phones, etc...

It does raise the bar for other manufacturers, but this isn't the portable media player market. In business you either have to be the first, or the cheapest (neither applies to iPhone), simply being the best doesn't cut it. Apple and its devotees have argued for ages that MacOS is so superior to Windows it's ridiculous, but they've never managed to even put a dent in Microsoft's market share.

With the iPod Apple was able to hog 60% of the market before the competition even woke up, but here they're up against Nokia, SonyEricsson, Motorola, Siemens, Blackberry, Palm/Treo, HP and a bunch of other giants with well established distribution channels and deals with every carrier on earth. I hope for Apple's sake they've patented the crap out of this thing because the first SonyEricsson iPhone killer is probably being designed as we speak.

You're right this isn't the portable media market - those devices are primitive compared to what's being offered here and yet the heavy weights were NEVER able to even dent THAT market. You would think the likes of SONY, HP MOTOROLA, M$SOFT and all the other consumer electronics giants, with all of their resources, could come up with something smart enough to compete with the iPod over the years, right? Wrong! The iPod was revolutionary in its design and usability (and not the first portable media device by the way). Paired with the best online music store experience distanced it even further from the rest. That's what revolutionary means: a new playing field - a new system - a new product. Apple does this better than anyone in the world. I'm not sure the competition is just Nokia, SonyEricsson, and Motorola any more. Listen closely, Apple is attempting to reinvent the mobile phone by marrying what we traditionally associate with a smartphone (smartERphone actually) under a totally new "human friendly" and intuitive package. Those things tend to have mass appeal.

If it ends up just being yet another slick mobile smartphone then yes, the competition will be a bear. On the other hand, if the mobile connectivity paradigm is changing as Apple wants it to, then its an (almost) level playing field again. Some may even argue that Apple has another head start on some of those technologies (mobile OS X for one - the best desktop OS now the best mobile OS)

In the end, we all win. Competition is great. So lets just sit back, watch the race and hope the world doesn't meltdown before we can play with all of these toys.

Why doesn't Apple bring a TV to the market? I could go for a 72 inch flat screen with the aluminum, thinness, and 1/16th inch thick bezel of the iPad2.

So why hasn't apple brought a TV to the front that dominates the market? We all know they can..

Yeah I had my computer shut down for the weekend but it's back up and running right now. I lost out on over 100K+ :(.

I might build another computer as I have a i7 920 laying around and maybe I can run another bigadv client. I'm also looking to purchase a home soon so I may be in a out a bit while I get re-situated into my new place. I also can't be spending too much on computer goodies :D

This is an illogical comparison and does not give us any real information to go on.

    Why?

    They are comparing iOS Devices.

I don't think RIM and all the rest should be compared to iPad and iPod touch devices.

This is playing with the numbers.

My $10 a month ($120 a year) web hosting account has 170 (thats right, 170!) gig of storage, something like hundreds of email accounts, php, ssh access, mysql, more, more and more.

True, it doesn't do all the fancy stuff that .mac does with sync'ing and so forth. But that isn't my point. My point is that we should expect more, much more for $100 a year because web hosting providers are able to make a profit by offering much more. If the users demand it Apple will come around. But not if people keep paying for the service as-is. So they upgraded the webmail client- great. The eagle really took a ***** today didn't it?
