Entering Politics ?

Divya Spandana became a member of the Youth Congress recently. The actress’s move surprised many but insiders say that with her family being in politics this is not something unanticipated. Divya, on the other hand, says that there is no point talking about corruption when we are not able to do anything about it.

The actress pointed out that she would join Anna Hazare’s movement to fight corruption. On joining the Congress party, Divya said that it does not mean she would enter politics full time. It is expected that she would meet Rahul Gandhi on April 21st when he is scheduled to visit Bengaluru.

I'm back !

Actress Divya Spandana, who recently announced that she was quitting Kannada films for good, has now gone for a change of heart. The actress had been in the middle of a running battle with Kannada producer Ganesh, who incidentally produced her latest film ‘Dandam Dashagunam’.

Trouble started when Divya skipped the audio launch of ‘DD’ and was reprimanded for the same and consequently ‘banned’ by the Karnataka State Film Chamber of Commerce. This made Divya fume and cry foul. She said that Ganesh owed her some amount which he hadn’t returned within the stipulated time.

“Instead of helping me recover the money from the producer, KFCC had erred in banning me. I’m quitting Kannada films for good,” Divya had said a few days back.

However the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) lifted its one-year ban on Divya on Thursday after the producer Ganesh cleared dues of the actress. In a meeting at the residence of veteran actor Ambareesh, Ganesh cleared dues of Divya and both shook hands. Now, Ramya can act in Kannada movies, and there is no ban on any artiste to act in films produced by Ganesh.

Following this, in a social networking site, the actress has recorded yesterday that she was withdrawing her decision to ‘quit’ as she had got her money back and also due to the fact that her fans had urged her in through ‘Twitter’ to continue to act in Kannada films.

She has a couple of her films releasing in a month’s time from now. Divya, grand-daughter of Union Foreign Affairs minister S.M. Krishna, aspires to become a film producer very soon and assures that she would obviously be playing the lead role in the film produced under her home banner.

Fans are with me

Ramya is firm about her decision to quit the industry until she’s been cleared of all this mess and the producer apologises to her for defaming her. “I have only tried to help Ganesh and he’s gone around town trying to defame me. I don’t intend to return to the industry until my name is cleared and justice is met,” Ramya tells Metrolife.

The issue of Ramya’s squabble with producer A Ganesh was taken up by the Kannada Cinema Artists’ Association and its president, Ambarish urged that Ganesh must return the money with immediate effect and that no actor would act in his films. “I have left it to senior artists in the industry like Ambarish, Jayamala and Parvathamma to settle the issue. I will stand by what they decide. I don’t look for support or any kind of sympathy but I think I have approached the right people to sort out this issue. Senior artists in the industry like Jayamala have had financial issues with Ganesh and now Pooja Gandhi also seems to have spoken out. This shows his reputation,” she observes.

However, Ramya is miffed that Ganesh has gone on to defame her by dubbing her as a ‘non kannadiga’. “He’s talking about unrelated issues and is using this opportunity to defame me. I won’t tolerate that. This is no war, neither is it a clash of egos. It’s simple. Ganesh owes me money and he has to return it. Why is he acting like this?” she wonders.

So will she return to the industry after all this mess is sorted out? “Yes I will return to act but only for my fans who have been supportive through and through. They wrote to me asking me why they (my fans) should be punished for what somebody else did. That touched my heart. I will return only for my fans,” says Ramya.

Meanwhile, the Kannada Film Producers’ Association president K C N Chandrashekar says he has formed a sub committee of producers comprising K Manju, Muniratna and Sa Ra Govindu to approach Ramya and request her to return to the industry and partake in the promotion of Dandam Dashagunam. “Ganesh will have to apologise and return the money. We would request her not to take any hasty decisions and quit in a huff,” says Chandrashekar.

Producer A Ganesh was unavailable for comment.
