"Shahid is a great friend" says Sonam

The kind of free-bird public image Sonam Kapoor has, one would have expected her to throw a glamorous party on her birthday. But it seems like Sonam, who turned 26 on Thursday, has become wiser. She had a quiet birthday and was shooting for her upcoming movie Mausam.

Now the rumor mongers have something to talk about! They can claim that Sonam spent her birthday with Shahid Kapoor (since he is the lead actor of Mausam). But before anyone could suspect anything, Sonam said that she finds a great friend in Shahid and is happy that she has not been linked with him. She added that the girl who would land up with him in the end would be really lucky. Are you reading Priyanka Chopra?

Anyway, Sonam’s daddy Anil Kapoor has already bagged some great roles in Hollywood. So will she follow his footsteps? Maybe, exclaims Sonam. She believes what matters is the kind of role being offered, not the language. However, if a great director offers her a good project, she would definitely consider it.

Effectively, Sonam is considered to be the style diva of Bollywood. So, who does she think is the most stylish actress in the industry? Unlike her other contemporaries, who would name a yesteryear actress to avoid the question, she said she finds Kangana Ranaut incredibly stylish.

Well, Sonam, you and your straight-forward talks always please your fans. Keep them coming!

Sonam calls Ramdev "a sexist homophob"

While the celebs of B-town are busy condemning the act of police at Ramlila Maidan, our very own Sonam Kapoor doesn’t seem moved by whatsoever Baba Ramdev is doing? According to reports, she prefers Baa Baa Black Sheep over this Baba.

Sonam used her Twitter handle to express her disgust in a sarcastic manner. She tweeted, “I prefer Baa Baa Black Sheep over Baba Ramdev.”

This comment reportedly irked one of her fans, who tweeted her back that she is being rude to Baba. But the girl responded by saying, “As rude as you should be to a sexist homophob!”

But before the war of words spilled out on Twitter, Sonam made a valid point. Her tweet said, “Sadly for us (& happily 4 political parties) the #BabaRamdev episode hs diverted evry1's attentn fm the main issue: corruption.”

Jewellery designer and DJ Aqeel’s wife Farah Khan Ali is also by Sonam’s side. “Bored of Baba. A true believer does not run. He stands up 2 face d heat. Although I do believe d police should not have done what they did,” reads her tweet.

What’s your take on Sonam’s comment on Baba Ramdev. Is it rude or apt?

Birthday Plans..

Ask actress Sonam Kapoor about her plans for her birthday tomorrow, and she’s quick to say that she plans to be home and spend some quality time with her folks.

“There are no big plans for my birthday. In fact, it is quite the opposite. I am planning to stay at home and spend some quality time with my family,” says the actress while flitting in between shots. However, sources say that her sister Rhea and friends have planned a surprise party for her, but the venue of the party couldn’t be confirmed. It is learnt that Sonam might just be whisked away to a suburban night spot.

Sonam, who made news for her debut at Cannes last month, elaborates, “It’s been quite a busy time for me. I haven’t been able to give time to my family. I think they deserve my time and attention on my birthday and what would be better when I have my sister, brother, mom and dad to wish me on my birthday?” asks the actress who turns 26.

The actress has also just recovered from an acute stomach ailment. “With so many projects on my shoulders, I cannot afford to fall sick anymore. I am very careful about what I am eating and drinking these days,” she adds.

So what is Sonam’s dream gift? “Oh, I just love diamonds! They are surely a girl’s best friend,” she says.

Fashionista Sonam at the Cannes

Sonam Kapoor cleaned up nice as she made her first appearance at Cannes. The fashionista disappointed none in her Jean Paul Gaultier couture dress which emphasized her slender waist.

The whole look was put together by filmmaker sister Rhea Kapoor, who herself gave the carpet a miss.

The ultra-modern princess is ready to enter the ball in her sky-high Ferragamo shoes.

Looking forward to meeting good friend Freida Pinto inside, Sonam flashes that photogenic smile. The camera loves her!

"Mausam" - Passionate Love Saga

Shahid Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor are coming together for the first time as a romantic couple in "Mausam". Pankaj Kapoor’s directorial debut is riding high on buzz ever since the film was announced. Initially, the makers couldn’t finalize the female lead opposite Shahid, and there were speculations that a nationwide hunt would be conducted to search the lead actress for the film. Since Mausam required a sweet-looking girl, who better suited than Sonam.

In the movie Shahid’s name is Harry; he plays a pilot and sports different looks in the film. He has even gone for a moustache for his role. Sonam, like a true fashionista, takes a good care of her styling in this film too. Her role is of Aayat, and Sonam will be seen in lovely, feminine dresses. The movie also gives her the chance to don loads of vintage clothes like elaborate dresses and gowns.

After seeing the two different posters of the film, we know Mausam is going to be a visual delight as it is shot in the enthralling locales of London, Scotland, Switzerland and near Chandigarh in India. But no one has a clue about the story of the film. It is expected to be a time travel romantic film spanning over decades.

The movie is all set to release on July 22.

Sonam Kapoor in Bikini ..

Sonam KapoorActress Sona who made her debut as glamour girl became a glamorous producer by producing a film titled Kanimozhi that had Jai and Shazahn Padamsee in the lead in association with T Shiva of Amma Creations.

Now there is news that Sona is scripting the story, screenplay and dialogues for a new film that would be based on her own life. She has mentioned that she will be directing this film and has plans to cast Sonam Kapoor to do justice to her glamorous image.

While Vidya Balan's role in director Milan Luthria's film 'Dirty Picture' is confirmed to get dirtier with Vidhya's appearances in hot pants, low necklines, translucent tube tops and petticoats baring her mid-riff, thighs and cleavage, one shall also imagine Sonam Kapoor sporting a two piece bikini if cast to portray Sona's glamorous days.

Sonam gets wet with Shahid..!!

A Bollywood romantic film bearing the title Mausam can’t possibly do without a rain song. So there were Shahid Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor getting wet and frisky on the sets of the film last week.

In a remarkable display of professionalism, Sonam insisted on shooting the song in studio rain despite having recovered from poor health just days back. Obviously, everyone from the producer Sheetal Talwar to her co-star Shahid Kapoor and director Pankaj Kapur were very concerned and caring towards Sonam during the two days she shot for the rain sequence.

The shoot was held last week at Nitin Desai Studios in Karjat on the outskirts of Mumbai. All through the shoot, Shahid made sure Sonam did not catch cold. She was provided with a protection of warm clothes and steaming hot beverages.

Thankfully, Sonam remained in fine fettle. It was a health risk worth taking because the rain sequence had already been delayed by a month, and postponing it further would have meant a delay in the film’s completion. No wonder, Sonam’s gumption has the producer crooning her praises.

Ash, Sonam and Freida at the Cannes this year

She debuts at the film festival; but won't sashay down the red carpet on the same day as the Bachchan Bahu

The last time Sonam Kapoor was slated to walk on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival, it mysteriously didn't materialise. It was reported that the regular-at-the-fest Aishwarya Rai Bachchan had demanded that the younger actress be left out, or she wouldn't attend. This year the Aisha girl is finally fulfilling her catwalk dream. This is the first time that Sonam will be at the French Riviera. However, she will not be walking alongside Ash. Both actress endorse the global face of a cosmetic brand, that gives them the opportunity to hobnob with top actors and filmmakers of the world at the film festival, that is less about cinema and more about glamour.

Aishwarya will be at the opening ceremony of Cannes on May 11, as well as the opening gala cocktail and dinner while attending various events on May 12. This the tenth consecutive time that she is walking the red carpet at the French Riviera. The ex-Ms World sent out a press statement through her publicist saying, "I'm glad India is finally getting the same recognition (as the West). I am happy that with Sonam and Freida (Pinto), both beautiful women, are invited to the festival this year, India will have a stronger presence, which is a clear sign of the growing importance of the country."

Sonam will walk the red carpet on May 15. She said, "It has always been my dream to walk the red carpet at Cannes and it is soon going to be a reality. I look forward to meeting actors and film makers from the world over and attending screenings of some interesting films." Chances are that Sonam's dad Anil Kapoor who is one of the best known Indian faces in Hollywood after Slumdog Millionaire and the television series 24, may also one of the big Indian draws at the red carpet in Cannes.

Freida will be present at the amFAR (The American Foundation for AIDS Research) dinner and after-party on May 19.

Meet Punit Malhotra - Sonam's BF

Sonam Kapoor finds her boyfriend, Punit Malhotra, to be a too 'goody boy' and has been telling her friends this.

Sonam apparently finds Punit to be completely opposite to her and that, her friends say, is what is working for them. Punit is a mush-ball and is super caring.

He was always beside Sonam during her illness and has also won over Anil Kapoor's heart. Let's hold on to our horses...the wedding bells are nowhere in the picture. The Kapoors are just happy that Sonam has a nice boyfriend who is a good influence on her.

I worked very hard for Mausam: Shahid

About ten years ago if you had met Shahid Kapoor, he would've come across as funny, strange or even skinny. It's 2011. Today he might still be questioning why women find him so attractive. There's no denying that the actor has earned a mad fan following the hard way.

In person, Shahid looks every inch the movie star; a toned, somewhat rangy alpha male who parries questions with an easy twang. And yet on screen, there can be something low-key, even anonymous, about him. Kaminey is a film which many of his well wishers think is one act he will find difficult to surpass. What they don't realize is that the film was just the start of there being madness in method acting. But the actor is too fast to answer, "They haven't seen Mausam".

Here, in an early interview, Shahid speaks his heart on how he gave his heart and soul to 'Mausam', his different looks for the film and choosing a love story:

My father waited six months for me to complete other projects because I had to give my heart and soul to 'Mausam'

'Mausam' does require complete dedication and that's why I was told by my father, the director of the film too, to give my heart and soul to 'Mausam' as the principal characters, played by me and Sonam travel twelve years through the film. He very specifically told me, “I don't want you to do anything else in between while shooting”. He waited six months for me to complete other projects and then decided to start the shoot.

"Thank You" : Review

I suspect Akshay Kumar makes most of his movies just for the workout. Looking at his interchangeable comic roles, the actor increasingly seems to limit himself through the motions, flicking on that auto-pilot switch behind his head as he grins and grimaces and groans and guffaws, the latter working overtime in the way laugh-tracks used to do in old sitcoms: if you hear enough laughing, chances are you'll crack open a chuckle yourself.

Well, at least in theory. Despite Kumar's joker-in-a-box automaton attempts, Anees Bazmee's latest film Thank You goes nowhere, and takes forever to, um, not get there.

Frequently the film, like leading man Kumar, doesn't even bother with the attempt of being funny. And perhaps it really is high time we the audience stopped paying multiplex prices to watch Akshay Kumar go to his gym.

The story is template Bazmee: three wives decide to teach their straying husbands a lesson. Enter a private detective --specialising in husband-rehabilitation -- who, after raking the three husbands over the coals through the film, decides to eventually let Worst Husband Ever off the hook because said husband has now turned homicidal.

"That passion in your eyes," raves the detective, referring to bloodshot, trigger-happy rage, "is just what I wanted to see. Go remarry your wife."

Yes, it is just that kind of a film. It is also one that mistakes itself for being sensitive simply because it rallies against the male sex for philandering, before calling that a habit, a "chhoti-si aadat."

But hey, the filmmakers say, we're also calling men dogs so that automatically shows we're sympathetic towards women, right? (Feel free to insert an appropriately sized eye-roll here, do.)

Speaking of women, there are three here with predictably little to do. Sonam Kapoor spends most of the film realistically bawling her eyes out -- presumably lamenting being in a film this moronic -- and occasionally being shrill. Not being say, a Karisma Kapoor, she doesn't fit into the idiocy at all.

Rimi Sen, by virtue of being in many a scriptless film, has learnt to PareshRawal-ise her expressions enough to count as halfway funny, or at least funny-looking, and even Bazmee decides to keep Celina Jaitley's involvement to a minimum. (Thank You, Mr Director.)

Irrfan Khan, completely out of sorts as a know-it-all player and seducer of women, is markedly better in the second half when he doesn't have a clue but that's simply because Khan is a good actor particularly brilliant at acting clueless.

Kumar, also a fine actor, chooses in these films not to even try, and it is this that brings us to one of those chilly-days-in-Hell kind of declarations: that Suniel Shetty is the best thing in this film.

I kid you not. My fingers kept recoiling as I shakily typed that out but it is true. Shetty, who hasn't been watchable in over a decade, actually cuts loose with slapstick flair in this one. He owns the only actual jokes in the film (two, I counted) and genuinely seems to be having a good time.

Too bad he's the only one. Call me ungrateful but, in a nutshell, no thank you.

Anil was uncomfortable playing Casanova

Anil Kapoor opted out of " Thank You" because he was not comfortable playing a Casanova in a film featuring his daughter Sonam and that is when Irrfan Khan stepped in to do his first-ever masala comedy.

"Yes, we did replace Anil with Irrfan. But what to do? Casting circumstances changed in 'Thank You'. And it was no longer decorous to cast Anil Kapoor," said Bazmee.

Bobby Deol, Akshay Kumar, Irrfan, Suniel Shetty, Celina Jaitely and Rimi Sen forms the cast of "Thank You", which is releasing Friday.

Initially Katrina Kaif was playing the leading lady and Anil was supposed to feature as the third of the three skirt-chasers in "Thank You". But then Sonam stepped in to the picture, Anil stepped out.

The director admits Anil was replaced because of Sonam.

"Earlier it was Katrina Kaif who was doing the heroine's part in 'Thank You'. That's when Anil Kapoor was cast. When Sonam came into the picture, we quickly changed Anil to Irrfan. It would've looked very odd for Anil to play the roving-eyed Casanova in a film featuring his daughter."

Bazmee says this has not affected his relationship with Anil.

"There should be no hard feelings over that. Anil and I go back a long way. I've worked with him in 'No Entry', 'Welcome' and 'No Problem'. Now I've also worked with his daughter. I've been closely associated with Anil's brother Boney also. I don't think Anil has reason to be unhappy with me," he said.

Sonam misses shoot, a costly affair

Sonam Kapoor was rushed to the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Andheri yesterday. She complained of severe exhaustion and was also running a temperature. The star was in Dubai to promote her forthcoming flick, Thank You. As soon as she landed in Mumbai on Thursday, she collapsed due to fatigue. She was immediately taken to the hospital where she was diagnosed with extremely high fever. Sonam’s father Anil Kapoor says, “A hectic work schedule landed a fatigued and sleep-deprived Sonam in hospital.

After shooting round-the-clock for an endorsement, she jetted to Jaipur as brand ambassador for a luxury car. She then shot for the film Mausam, and rushed to Dubai for Thank You promotions.”

He adds, “On her return, she developed a high temperature and was taken to the hospital for a check-up. Late in the evening, it was learnt that Sonam needed to be hospitalised. She needed complete rest. Sonam will be discharged from the hospital over the weekend.” Sonam’s mother Sunita and sister Rhea are by her side. As reported ‘So-numb’ (Hitlist, March 21), the actress had taken ill due to a hectic work schedule. The star daughter had been working round-the-clock for months.

After a schedule of Abbas-Mastan’s Players in New Zealand for a month, she returned to finish the dubbing of Thank You. She had been working for almost 16 hours a day to fulfill her work commitments. Last year Sonam had got typhoid and continued to shoot for her films which had led to a relapse

Sonam and her Glamor

Glamour is not just a part of her identity as an actress. Sonam Kapoor is naturally glamorous with dollops of oomph and style which any Bollywood actress would find it hard to match. That’s why Cosmopolitan’s special Fashion October issue chose Sonam for their October 2010 ‘Red Hot Fashion’ edition.

For the magazine’s special photoshoot, the girl has posed like a ‘Glamour-geek’, ‘tomboyish-girlie-girl’, and even as a ‘traditional-rebel’. Dresses, showcasing autumn collection at its best, are from various foreign brands like Christian Dior and Chanel.

According to Sonam, fashion helped her to express her femininity. In fact, her fashion sense is highly admired by Katrina Kaif, who is fond of Sonam because she is always dressed so well, no matter what.

Dabanng Again

Cashing in on Salman Khan starrer Dabanng! There are going to be two remakes of the Bollywood hit down south, one in Telugu and another one in Tamil. We first heard that for the Tamil remake of Dabangg makers were keen to repeat Sonakshi Sinha, but as the actress has declined the offer, they want Sonam Kapoor to play the character.

Yes, the stylish Sonam in a south film! It’s learnt that the movie’s main hero Silambarasan is urging producers to have Sonam in the film. Though Sonam played a homely girl in her first two films, for her fans she is more a style icon who can carry any damn dress with aplomb. Signing Dabangg remake will also ensure her popularity down south.

Earlier, speculations were also rife that Katrina Kaif might do the role as she has done a few films down south, and even the name of Kajal Aggrawal was doing the rounds. As a source is quoted as saying, “There was also a buzz that the gorgeous South actress Kajal Aggarwal was being considered but Simbu insisted the makers to replace her with Sonam.”

However, for the Telugu remake, the cast is almost final - Pawan Kalyan will play Salman and the Game gal Sarah Jane Dias has said yes to essay the village belle Sonakshi so convincingly played.

Kela Award for Worst Actress to Sonam Kapoor

The Kela for the worst actress of the year goes to — Sonam Kapoor for Aisha. Keeping her company as the worst actor was King Khan Shah Rukh, for My Name is Khan. Anchor Cyrus Broacha didn’t expect either to be present at the third annual Golden Kela Awards on Friday at Rock Dome, a hall at the Ambience Mall in Gurgaon, and he wasn’t disappointed. The Bollywood equivalent of the Razzies, this is one award ceremony the filmy crowd loves to ignore.

Ben Kingsley had the dubious honour of winning a newly instituted award, “Baawra Ho Gaya Hai Kya Award” for Teen Patti while the “Jajantaram Mamantaram Award” for the worst named film was given to Lafangey Parindey. The winner of the “Sonu Nigam Career Suicide Award” was Sukhwinder Singh for Kuch Kariye.

This year, the Kela also recognised the saviours of 2010 in the form of an award called “The Saving Grace Award”. Unlike previous years, there was some Bollywood presence this year on the red carpet of the Golden Kela Awards — directors Habib Faisal, Vishal Bhardwaj, Abhishek Chaubey and actor Pradhuman Singh were present in the front row. Faisal received the Saving Grace award for Do Dooni Chaar while Bhardwaj and Chaubey won it for Ishqiya.

Sonam & Shahid in Mausam

Before taking a break from his period film Mausam to celebrate his 30th birthday in Italy, Shahid Kapoor was once again back on the set of the upcoming movie that costars Sonam Kapoor.

It's been hard to miss that Shahid has been sporting a new look lately and it's all because of the upcoming film. The Chance Pe Dance actor is set to rock four different looks in the love story between Rohan and Aayat.

The four styles represent the four seasons. Shahid will go from wearing a beard in winter to sporting a summer look, an autumn aura and a spring style.

Mausam is also said to be one of the actor's most romantic movies so far in his career. At least if we were to take Shahid's words for it:
"All I can say is, it is the most intensely romantic film I've ever done, or am likely to do," he told the Times of India.

Mausam will come out in July. The love story goes from depression to happiness according to the seasons. What do you think of Sonam's and Shahid's looks on the set of Mausam?
