Murder 2 not as sensual as Murder

Insiders insist there isn't much sensual chemistry in Murder 2 and Jacqueline Fernandes features only in an extended special appearance.

Much against the huge claims made by the Bhatts about the eroticism in Murder 2 and the sensationally-cut promos, industry insiders insist that there isn't much steam in the film.

People who have seen the film insist that other than some puffing and panting, there aren't many steamy scenes in the film as such. Most of this is packed in a single song while the remaining film is more of a suspense-thriller. Comparing to the sizzling chemistry between Mallika Sherawat and Emraan Hashmi in the first part, the second is nothing.

So the hoopla that Bhatts made about Jacqueline outdoing Mallika from the original seems to be nothing more than a publicity gimmick. Because the source insists that Jacqueline only has an extended special appearance in the film and will be seen only in the start and end of the thriller.

Jacqueline is bolder than Mallika and Bips?

There's tremendous buzz around Vishesh Films' Murder 2 starring Emraan Hashmi and Jacqueline Fernandez for obvious reasons.

The trade and the public who have now come to expect a staple erotic quotient from the Bhatt brothers (Mukesh and Mahesh) — Jism and Murder being the reference points — know that Murder 2 won't just push the envelope but tear it.

Mahesh Bhatt, the brain behind these films, admits that Jacqueline is bolder than Jism's Bipasha Basu and Murder's Mallika Sherawat (Murder). Says he, "We at Vishesh Films decided to make films with a high quotient of erotica to cater to the new consumer who is living a life radically different from the life I lived in my youth. "Bollywood cinema was slow to realise this but society had moved on. That is why when we made Jism and Murder and Raaz, the audience lapped it up. They had no problems with it. But the purists were outraged.

"For the first time in Indian cinema, Bipasha uttered the words, "the body doesn't know love, it only knows lust." Then we had Mallika in Murder who sleeps with another man and returns to her marriage only because her affair isn't working out. She has an intensely fulfilling sexual extra-marital relationship and feels no guilt. This is the post modern Indian woman.
"The India in which we were groomed, was shackled to certain beliefs. In the cinema made by our predecessors — Raj Kapoor and Raj Khosla — we were invariably shown that good people fell in love while bad people had sex.

"For me, the eye-opener came when I saw Jism in Delhi and found 70 per cent of the audience comprised of rich women. It was not just being viewed by sex-hungry frontbenchers but also by an evolved upmarket audience. "Raaz was simply the precursor. With Murder 2, women have gone one step further. Jacqueline is a different animal from Mallika and Bipasha. While they sinned with their eyes open but still yearned to conform towards the end; for Murder 2's Jackie, sex is even more casual. For her sex is like an expression. She does it as casually as she would inhale or exhale. That is what it is." The film releases worldwide on July 8.

Steamy hot jalebis from Mallika

If Mallika Sherawat wasn’t hot enough for the promotion of the upcoming comedy film Double Dhamaal, there are steamy hot jalebis too to woo the crowds.

We hear that Mallika Sherawat will be distributing the mouth-watering jalebis to her fans during the coming weekend to mark the launch of her item song “Jalebi Bai” in Double Dhamaal, starring Sanjay Dutt, Arshad Warsi, Ritesh Deshkukh and Aashish Chaudhary. Mallika is the film’s leading lady.

The marketing and creative team of Double Dhamaal has come up with this unique promotional idea. The inspiration, however, came from the film’s sets.

During the shoot of the song, director Indra Kumar would order about 25 kgs of jalebis for the crew. Everyone, including the diet conscious Mallika Sherawat, used to have a bite.

Now, during the coming weekend, Mallika herself would promote “Jalebi Bai’ by giving away the boxes of jalebi to her fans at a sweet mart in suburban Mumbai.

Guess the fans would be left licking their fingers.

Bonding with Frieda..

Mallika Sherawat may not be known for her ability to make friends easily but she makes exceptions once in a while. A source close to the actress says that when Madame M was in Cannes for the international film festival, last month, she happened to bump into another desi beauty — Freida Pinto at the Amfar dinner.

The common point between Freida and Mallika is that they are Indians who are trying to make it big in Hollywood. The source says that no one expected the two to acknowledge each others presence and thought that Mallika would want to be left by herself at the exclusive event. But trust Mallika to spring a surprise when you least expect it.

“We don’t know how it all happened. But the next thing we knew was that Mallika and Freida were chatting with each other. There was no sign of any animosity between them and they even gladly posed for pictures together,” says the source.

So, what did the two talk about? “We’re not sure. But they were overheard discussing their upcoming films and life in Hollywood in general. Mallika and Freida didn’t have a common agenda, because Freida was representing a cosmetic brand while Mallika was not part of any such group. But they discussed the difference in working styles back home and in Hollywood,” says the source.

Not most Bollywood beauties like to acknowledge another actor’s presence, especially when they are at international events, so we guess this comes as a welcome change, or is it too early to say that.

Mallika promotes "Politics of Love"

Finally, Mallika Sherawat has got down to some real work at Cannes Film Festival. Just days after wowing the paparazzi with her black see-through gown on the red carpet, she promoted her first Hollywood film "Politics of Love".

Set in the run-up to the 2008 Presidential elections in America, the film may be coming four years too late in the day, but Mallika is making sure it makes the right buzz among movie buffs.

A promo of the film was screened at Cannes, followed by a cocktail reception on the terrace of the Grand Hotel. People were spotted wearing face masks of President Barack Obama as the movie has Mallika playing an ardent Obama supporter who falls for a guy who campaigns for Obama’s Republican adversary John McCain.

Mallika very rightly chose to wear a light blue gown for the event.

Last week, Mallika Sherawat became one of the selected few to meet the US President Barack Obama over a cup of tea in Los Angeles.

The actress is over the moon since that meeting.

When a follower pointed to her that she was trending on Twitter, Mallika responded: “What? wow cant believe;) & all it took was a meetin w/ Obama lol”

Mallika is now looking forward to the release of her film Politics of Love in which she plays a die-hard believer in Obama.

"Shalu ke thumke ki duniya deewani" - Mallika

In what seems like an open challenge at the throne of the two hottest Bollywood item queens, Mallika Sherawat danced to an item song at Yashraj Studios, whose words blatantly mocked Katrina and Malaika's twin triumphs.

Mallika sang, "Munni bhi maani aur Sheila bhi maani, Shalu ke thumke ki duniya deewani."

Apparently the "Munni" and "Sheila" choreographer was approached to do Mallika's "Shalu ke thumke." But Farah Khan begged off, saying she only choreographs for very close family friends.

According to a source, the lyrics were originally quite different for the song.

"By openly singing that she's better than 'Munni' and 'Sheila,' Mallika is sending out a clear signal to the entertainment industry. It was Mallika who wanted the Munni-Sheila element incorporated into the song. Composer Anand Raj Anand modified the tune accordingly," the source said.

"Mallika wants to position herself as the No.1 item queen of Bollywood. She feels her 'Maiyya maiyya' in 'Guru' came long before 'My name is Sheila' and 'Munni badnaam.' This year she has already performed two item songs and is open to more," added the source.

What's more, her image as the tantrum queen is now a thing of the past. While shooting for "Munni bhi maani Sheila bhi maani", Mallika was the epitome of good behaviour.

Mallika's Hollywood Flick - "Love, Barack"

Mallika Sherawat's Hollywood film Love, Barack has found a glimmer of hope.

The movie has managed to a distributor to release the film. The movie that was scheduled to go straight as a DVD release, will now see a worldwide release.

A source says, "Mallika is a relieved person now that the film has finally found a distributor. America's largest urban distributor Codeblack is now handling the film. She was really jittery thinking that her Hollywood work would not see the light of the day. But now, things are fine."

Why was Mallika at the Oscars?

Actress Mallika Sherawat, who was last seen hobnobbing with the Hollywood glitterati, at the Academy Awards is apparently getting ready for her appearance at the Cannes Film Festival in May now.

A source close to the actress says that Sherawat is putting together her wardrobe for her next red carpet appearance. And if you are wondering what she will wear, you might have to wait a tad bit longer before seeing Sherawat in a dare devil avatar on the red carpet. Says the source, “Gone are the days when Mallika would dress to grab eyeballs. Her tastes have refined and she’d rather gel in than try to stand out. The case in point is her recent Oscar appearance. She wore a white sequined gown and her look was appreciated by most fashion critics. There was no element of drama at all —- that’s the new Mallika for the red carpet.”

Sherawat, who like most other stars flaunts the best of labels on the red carpet wore a gown by Mark Bower — the same designer who had dolled up Hollywood hottie Angelina Jolie for previous red carpet appearances. Sherawat’s shoes, says the source, were handmade especially for her by a famed Italian boutique company. Her hair and make-up was done by a top make-up artist in Hollywood and she will not settle for anything less for her stint at the upcoming Cannes event. The source says that in all probability, the same designer will dress her up for her Cannes outing as well.

When contacted, Sherawat said, “Making a statement is easy, but the trick lies in finding something that can bring in an element of warmth and humanity.” Ask her what look does she have in mind for her next red carpet outing and she says that she doesn’t have a fixed formula that she relies on. “Well, every red carpet has its own flavour and demand of how you can express yourself. The Marc Bouwer dress I wore for the Oscars had cleaner lines and a more tailored look. It was a refined style that showed a woman’s figure and was pretty for all to admire,” says Sherawat, adding that on the accessories front, she prefers to wear jewelleries that sparkle — “maybe diamonds that make you dream,” she concludes.

Pantyless Yana to sizzle in "Murder 2"

Yana Gupta is all set to sizzle in an item song in Mahesh Bhatt's Murder 2. There was a lot of speculation about who will do an item number in Murder 2 as initially, Bhatt had approached Bipasha Basu who refused the offer.

Later, Mallika Sherawat, who was the female lead in the original, was offered this number but that didn't work out either. Finally, Yana has been chosen by the Bhatt camp to do this sizzling item number.

Post her stint in Jhallak Dilkhlaa Jaa, Yana is said to be flooded with offers. Apart from Murder 2, she will also do a special number in Chalo Dilli. It is a remixed version of the old popular song Laila Main Laila.

Mallika to do a "Sheila" act

After Malaika Arora Khan and Katrina Kaif, its Mallika Sherawat's turn to display her sultry moves in a desi-themed item song, which have become the latest craze in Bollywood post 'Munni' and 'Sheila'.

Sherawat, who stars in the Reliance Entertainment and Maruti International's 'Double Dhamaal', directed by Inder Kumar, has shot for a steamy item number titled 'Jalebi Bai'.

The four day schedule of the song was shot at Mehboob Studios, where a lavish set of a casino was created to give the song the right look and feel. "She's got her enticing moves right and is sure to give the Munnis and the Sheilas a run for their money!," a source said.

The song has been choreographed by ace dance master Ganesh Acharya and music is by Anand Raj Anand.

The movie is slated to hit theatres this June.

This is not the only item number from Sherawat this year. Before this number, there was news that the 'Hisss' actress would out-sizzle Munni and Sheila in the item number, 'Razia' for the Salman Khan starrer, 'Ready'.

Bips to sizzle in "Murder 2"

Tabloids have it that at the outset, the makers of the ‘Murder’ sequel had approached the ‘Murder’ heroine Mallika for the item song in the flick, but when the actress turned down the offer on grounds of fee, the filmmakers moved on to the dusky hottie Bipasha Basu.

When asked about the item song offer, Bipasha’s spokesperson said, "Right now, she has no dates for the item number's shoot. However, Bipasha would love to work with the Bhatts again, and yes...if the shoot works out during the time she is available, she will most definitely be doing a dance number in Murder 2."

Why did Mallika reject the item song offer?

Rumors has it that as the makers of ‘Murder 2’ had roped in Jacqueline Fernandez for the role of the leading lady instead of Mallika, who had starred in the original, the latter got offended.

As such, when she was offered the item song in the sequel, she demanded a high fee. But the filmmakers, reluctant to pay her the huge amount, switched on to Bips.

When asked why Jacqueline was preferred to Mallika, director Mohit Suri said, “I signed her as she fits the role very well. Murder is a brand and I feel Jacqueline carries the sensuality that the character required, very well.

“We wanted give the project a fresh look. The first Murder also had a new girl [Mallika], which worked.”

2011: Year of Item Songs?

This is the year of item songs in Bollywood. Buzz is that the latest sensation is going to be Mallika Sherawat's sexy and steamy number titled 'Jalebi Bai' from Indra Kumar's 'Double Dhamaal'. Sources say the song is likely to be more erotic than 'Munni' and choreographer Ganesh Acharya is promising an awesome performance. The actress has put it simply as 'Wait and Watch'. Abhishek's incredible performance in the song will definitely put Deepika in danger of losing the limelight.

Mallika's Razia or Deepika's Mit Jaye Gham

Hot item songs have become the order of the day, yet again. In between, item songs had gone extinct in Hindi films, but after 'Munni' (Dabangg) and 'Sheila' (Tees Maar Khan), item songs are back and how! In fact, several film-makers attempting masala films are ensuring that there's scope for at least one item number in the film.

What's even more surprising is the fact that the top league actors are more than enthusiastic when it comes to featuring in item songs, looking at the popularity of these numbers.

Mallika Sherawat's 'Razia' from Thank You and Deepika Padukone's 'Dum Maaro Dum' from Dum Maaro Dum have just been released, while David Dhawan has just filmed an item song on Sanju and Lisa Haydon for Rascals and Ready will feature a song on -- you guessed it right -- Salman Khan.

That's not all, there's talk that SRK will feature in an item song in his home-production Always Kabhi Kabhi, directed by Roshan Abbas.
